Audio

An audio signal is a representation of sound.

  1. by changing the level of electrical voltage for analog signals
  2. or by a series of binary numbers for digital signals

Range: 20 - 20,000 Hz

  • lower and upper limits of human hearing
  • characterized by parameters
    • bandwidth
    • nominal level
    • power level in decibels (dB)
    • voltage level
  • Signal paths are either
    • single-ended
    • balanced

Digital audio is sent over:

  • optical viber
  • coaxial cable
  • or, twistsed pair cable
